A Respite in Uncertain Times

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7

This verse has been a guiding force for me since I was a child. My Mother was sick with Cancer, my Father, at work most of the time, delivering babies in the community, started his private practice as a physician and was doing his best to provide for my Mom, me and my brothers…most certainly, uncertain times. It was scary being a child and not understanding most of what was happening around me. Through all of this, I found respite in church….bible verses, singing in the choir, fellowship with my peers. My faith carried me through.

Fast forward to age 40…I discovered Yoga, also during a tumultuous time in my life…that was quite certainly, uncertain. My yoga practice and my faith in God continues to be a guiding force, almost 20 years later, a grounding force for me in joyful times, in grief and sadness, and life’s certain uncertainties.

Studio update regarding the COVID-19 virus:

The teachers and I have been diligently at work cleaning the space, the bolsters, blankets, and other props. The studio is stocked with cleaning supplies, anti-bacterial soap, and hand sanitizer for your use as you need. We will continue to offer our weekly classes as scheduled. The Yoga Room will remain a safe and sacred space for all. We, as a community, will continue to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of contributing to the spread of the virus. We will practice excellent hygiene, safe distancing and will not come to work if we have any suspicious symptoms.

Our studio space is 1600 square feet. We have plenty of room to spread out. I do ask that each of you bring your own yoga mat and a towel to place over a bolster if you choose to use one. Our teachers are highly skilled and are able to teach with or without props. If you have your own, please bring them if you wish. Even though we will sanitize regularly, please feel free to bring your own sanitizer. And most of all, avoid coming to class if you yourself have any suspicious symptoms.

I think now, more than ever, in these uncertain times, we all need our yoga community, to support each other, and to help counter the effects of stress all around us. Remember that Self Care is Health Care! Eat nutritious food, keep moving, spend lots of time in nature, pray, meditate, observe your thoughts, and censor, wisely, what you allow yourself to read on social media and watch on TV.

Please follow The Yoga Room Facebook page for updates and the most current information.  As things continue to change, know that we are continually monitoring and will follow the recommendations provided by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Mississippi State Department of Health.  For more information, click this link to their website.

Yours in Health…Body, Mind, and Spirit!
